Special Work our Chapter is Most Proud of:
We donate “Teddy Bears to Hug” to the Dresden area’s Police Department, Fire Department, etc. for children that are found in traumatic situations such as car accidents, fires, and abusive situations in their homes or wherever to comfort them.
We work with other community groups together in projects eg. we prepare and serve the lunch for the Dresden Horticultural Society Annual Garden Tour and we have prepared the supper for the Lambton Kent Composite School’s murder mystery dinner and play.
In 1999 we are started an annual “Tree of Tribute” at Christmas and people can donate to purchase a light on the tree to honour or in memory of a loved one or friend and the money will be specified by the donor whether it be sent to the Public General campus, St Joseph’s campus, Sydenham campus, or the IODE Maternal Newborn Enhancement Project, all of the Chatham Kent Health Alliance in Chatham, wherever they choose.
We are very proud that we have confirmation of $15,000.00 from the Ontario Lottery Commission has arrived and we are purchasing a computer workstation, audio & video centre with over 200 videos in stock and all new storyhour program supplies and enhancements for the Dresden Library which is being expanded at this time in our new municipality of Chatham Kent.
Our annual Art Show is our largest fundraiser and this year 38 artists showed their work from all over southwestern Ontario, and we heard from our attendees that this was the best Art Show yet!
We also go to Park Street Place and Heritage Court in Dresden each month to do Birthday parties for the seniors for the month, with songs, bingos, karaoke, violins, etc. as entertainment and they appreciate all the fun.
“We Live In Deeds” is our motto and we have 40 members that are dedicated to IODE ideals and are making our community a better place.
