Call to Artists
Community Banner Series, Dresden, Ontario
Artist Opportunity
The town of Dresden invites artists, photographers and illustrators to submit concept proposals to create original banner artwork for a series of thirty six (36) street banners to be fabricated and installed onto our downtown light pole standards. This call is open to emerging and established visual artists and photographers as well as community members, groups and event organizers.
The successful artist(s) will receive $50.00 plus HST for their submissions. Fabrication/installation costs are covered by the Dresden BIA thru the Chatham Kent Ward Funding Grant. Designs, artwork, and plans are subject to final approval by the Dresden BIA. A Public Art Jury will be established for this competition.
Project Brief
The Community Banner Series will build on the success of the original Community Banner Program and highlight the themes; culture+attractions, events+festivals, sip+savour, stay+relax, stroll+shop. Banner artwork should engage Dresden’s diverse local communities; celebrate the town’s natural, social and built environment; and bring more colour, beauty, pride and enjoyment to our streets, and gateways to our community. Artwork does not need to be recently created. * Banners will be on display for approximately three (3) years.
Submission Requirements
– Artist statement: Write a brief statement for each art design and for the overall series;
– Create and submit high-resolution digital files of up to six (6) art designs;
– Artist(s) will retain copyright over their proposals.
– Artwork must fit banner dimensions of 23 ¾” wide and 54 ¾” high with 4 ½” pole pockets top and bottom and 4 grommets on the hem lines. (Portrait orientation works best.)
